In Zorn’s Footsteps – In My Own Shoes

A woman balances on a log. Another steps into the water, sending ripples across the surface. Anders Zorn captured these moments with his camera as references and used them for his etchings, but he never painted them. More than a century later, they take shape in my paintings.

Working from photographs in the book Fotografen Zorn, I interpret these scenes in colour, in my own style. The women, the water and the Swedish landscape are close to subjects I have explored for years. Here, my painting meets another artist’s eye.

This series is my way of carrying a Swedish figurative tradition forward while following my own path. Alongside my deep respect for Zorn, I feel a connection through the work itself: a shared fascination with the human body, light, and the movement of water. A fellow painter from another time, whom I get to meet through his photographs.
